How to Join the MWAA Orchestra

With the exception of beginning students, all students who audition will be accepted. The audition is to ensure that students are placed in a class with students of a similar ability level. Just a reminder that the MWAA program will not offer beginning level classes for the 2019-20 academic year. If you have a beginning level student, please see the information on Preparatory Programs.

Step 1
Complete and submit the Audition Information page.

Step 2
Print the Audition Music and begin practicing.  Then, students need to prepare a VIDEO of themselves performing as much of the audition materials as they can play.  Students are not required to perform all of the audition page, just play as much as you can. Also, students can record each portion of the audition at different times, they do not need to play the entire audition at the same time.

Step 3
All audition videos are due by midnight on Friday, 8/2/19. Videos can be uploaded via this link, or videos can be emailed to: drnyle@mwaatx.org. Please label all videos with the student’s first and last name and submit them by the deadline of midnight on Friday, 8/2/19. Students will be notified of their audition results no later than Monday, 8/5/19.

Step 4
After receiving the audition video, students will be placed into the appropriate class and then they will be able to officially register.  Registration is $35 per student and will only be payable after the audition video is submitted.  This fee will cover the cost of the student t-shirt, music binder, instrument tuner, class method book and other supplies. These items will be provided for every student to keep so parents do not need to find and purchase them.  Vinyl window clings will also be available for an additional $10 each.  Parents will need to supply an instrument of the proper size and in good working order.  Parents of students in the Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras will need to obtain concert clothes (I will supply neck ties for the guys).
